For nearly a century, National Saddlery has been part of the landscape of Oklahoma City.
Now, it has a whole new look and feel in historic OKC Stockyards City.
The new National Saddlery at the corner of SW 13th Street and S. Agnew not only features 11,600 square feet of space for people to check out all kinds of saddles and other gear for people ranging from rodeo pros to admirers of Western art and accessories; it also offers visitors a Western feel that’s genuine and unique to Oklahoma.
“Planning for our new store started with a dream two years ago. We really wanted this building to be more than just a place to shop, but rather a place with the look and feel that reflects our Western way of life,” said the National Saddlery’s Jessica Reed.
Just as it started out back in 1926, National Saddlery remains a working saddle shop, but it also offers much more in stock, including tack, ropes, and rodeo gear from leading manufacturers. It also carries supplies for farmers and ranchers who depend on “equine partners” in their day-to-day work, as well as a Lucchese boot boutique and inventories of Western lifestyle home décor and other accessories.
The building’s exterior abides with the historic feel of the neighborhood, clad in red brick with cast stone accents, black steel canopies and black metal frame windows. The original National Saddlery neon blade sign has been refurbished and relocated from the original store just across the street on Agnew.
“As National Saddlery enters its 96th year in business, we are honored to complete our new storefront in Oklahoma’s Historic Stockyards City,” National Saddlery owner Jo Wiens said. “We thank our customers, friends, and fellow merchants in the Stockyards District for their support throughout this process.”
The architecture firm that worked on the project was HSE Architects. CMSWillowbrook was the construction management firm.
Many people gathered recently for a grand opening of the new store.
“As president of one of Oklahoma’s longest-running agricultural businesses, it is an honor to support yet another icon in the western and agricultural sector with their grand reopening in such a fine fashion,” commented Kelli Payne, president of the Oklahoma National Stockyards and Stockyards City Main Street. “We tip our hat to this new and improved location that will add value to Oklahoma City.”
The National Saddlery is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Find out more online at nationalsaddlery.com.
