Freak storm victim Fedel Marajah, 47, is appealing to sawmills and lumber yards for pieces of lumber to help him reconstruct his garage.
Marajah was among 10 people affected when a freak storm hit the village of Palmiste in Central Trinidad on Saturday and tore the roof of the house he was occupying.
He also operates his garage on the side of his house.
Marajah said once he gets a roof over the area that he works under, he can start earning some money to get repairs underway and added that he plans on using the recovered galvanised steel sheets that were ripped off the house during the freak storm to rebuild. Marajah said he and his family members spent Saturday night in a shed on the opposite side of the road and added that because the shed is without amenities, family members had to cross the road to use bathroom facilities in the damaged house.
He told Guardian Media that the affected residents have no choice but to cope with the situation until they can do better.
Marajah shares an apartment with his wife Cindy Sooklal, 33, and their children Dominic Marajah, 8, Abigail Marajah, 15 and Fedel Junior, 21.
The other apartment in the same building is occupied by Ryan Sooklal, 28, his common-law wife Thelma Gueverra, 43, her son Josiah Ablack, 14 and Indra Tilkaran, 57.
Councillor for Caparo/Mamoral in the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation John Lezama said he has been liaising with the family since the incident occurred.
Lezama said he plans on writing the three sawmills in the area and appealing for some form of assistance.
Lezama added that he was also trying to make some arrangements for the affected families to get some form of temporary accommodations until they can once again occupy their house.
